God is here. But we are not robots, He allows us free choice and reason here on earth (and is not Chernobyl a human undertaking?) What we cannot understand is the extent of time. Are we not just a vapor? Here one moment and gone the next? Eternity means that this life and its sorrows while very real and horrible now (because it is all we know) are just a fraction of a second in a soul's experience.
This is not easy. And it does take faith because this life is all we know, much like a child who only knows his or her backyard. I do not think we will know the reason or why of such events until we stand in the presence of God.
The slide show is heart wrenching, it is horrible, and the effects of Chernobyl will stretch on for many many years to come. We can choose how we respond to it. We can either shut it out or show compassion.
