Not Lunatics, Heroes...

After Paris, so many people calling the killers crazy.

"The real limiting factor is finding about a dozen psychos who are so mentally whacked that they think that this is a good idea, but are still composed enough that they can work together effectively."

    What nonsense.

The limiting factor is finding about a dozen heroes who are so dedicated to the cause that they are willing to strike a serious blow for God.

These people are mission-identical with the Dam Busters, FTP,  or the Doolittle raiders. The ideology is different, and the social infrastructure a lot weaker, and you don't like seeing what they do on the news, but they aren't crazy spree killers. They are soldiers, they think of themselves as soldiers. Their friends, families, teachers,  and millions of people think of them as soldiers.

The Aurora slug and the Chattanooga murderer illustrate the difference. Aurora was a nutjob, but the Chattanooga one was a functioning, job-holding, friend-having, electrical engineer with a serious ideology for which he was willing to die. FFS, he went after the entire U. S. Marine Corps and the Chattanooga Police Department on his own. If he'd been a German in 1940 there would be statues and street signs all over Europe.

And like it or not, pretend otherwise or not, stadia, bars, malls, supermarkets, grade schools, hospitals, nursing homes, and $%^&* pet dogs are all legitimate military targets, at least they are since the Allies found a way to attack them in 1943. They remain, in this day of perfect targeting, legitimate military targets for us  when there's an important, or unimportant, or possible enemy in them.  Certainly they are in an insurrection, where the goal is to make the State look helpless to protect its own, frighten the government, weaken its resources, and impress the wavering with the insurgents' power, determination, and ferocity. What do you think this is, Chancellorsville?

This isn't a mental heath problem any more than it's a criminal justice problem.  It's Algeria. It's Béziers.

In The Navy, 2005...

Where can you be helpless
When you get in a mess
If a murderer attacks?
Where can you begin to learn you that had best  not
Watch out for your ship mate's backs?
Where can you learn to hide
Out behind a closed blind
Hoping that no one will see?
Duck and run for cover
If bullets fly over
Or run out the back to flee...

In the navy
You had better not shoot back
In the navy
You'll get your ass in a crack
In the navy
Come on now, people, don't you stand
In the navy, in the navy
You had best not raise a hand!
In the navy
You can protect the mother land
In the navy
But just not your fellow man!
In the navy
Never never make a  stand!

In the navy, in the navy, in the navy (in the navy)

They want you, they want you
They want you to keep your head down!

If you're down for shaheed
AK up and proceed
To a recruiting office fast
Don't you hesitate
There is no need to wait
Just shoot at all the seamen fast
Maybe you are too young
To join up today
Bout don't you worry 'bout a thing
For I'm sure there will be
Always a good navy
targets on the  land you see.

In the navy
Yes, you can grovel on the floor
In the navy
Yes, you can hope they shoot no more
In the navy
Call the cops, don't make a stand
In the navy, in the navy
We'll make sure  you need a hand
In the navy
Don't dare protect the motherland
In the navy
Hide out with your fellow man
In the navy
Don't dare be bold or make a stand
In the navy, in the navy, in the navy (in the navy)

They want you, they want you
They want you as a new recruit!

Who me?

They want you, they want you
Just as long as you dare not shoot!

But, but, but, I have a gun permit.
Hey, hey look
Man, I don't want to be executed!

They want you, they want you in the navy

Oh my goodness.
What am I gonna do when the jihad comes?

They want you, they want you in the navy

In the navy
you damned well better not shoot back
In the navy
you'll get your ass in a crack
In the navy
Come take cover, don't you stand
In the navy, in the navy
You had best not raise a hand!
In the navy
You can protect the mother land
In the navy
But not your fellow man!
In the navy
Never never make a  stand!

Molly Norris, Another Martyr for Liberty, Another Victory for the Jihad...

Molly Norris is a hero, just like Ayaan Ali Hirsi.

I'm proud to share citizenship with her.

And like Ms. Hirsi, she's welcome to hide out at my house.

When that jackass in Florida came up with his Koran stunt, or people griped about the mosque, lots of people who opposed them talked about doing so as Christians- how their Christian faith made them oppose burning those books or protesting the mosque. Not because they were Moslems, but becayse it was important for Christians to demonstrate to Moslems that Christianity is about love and respect for people, even unbelievers.

Christians stood up- under their own names- for respect for Moslems. Because that was Ms. Norris' point- that if we all "go Spartacus" and stand up, the decent people win.

I would be ashamed to claim a faith and be silent in the face of its hijackers. My faith is being an American, and that's why I offered to hide her out.

Shame no powerful "moderate Moslems" think as much of their own religion.

Wouldn't it be refreshing to see a letter like this, with one of these signatures:

"Dear Ms. Norris;

First, as a devout Muslim, I have to tell you that your actions were disrespectful to my Faith, and to all Faiths. It is, at the very least, poor manners to mock the honest beliefs of others.

But Islam does NOT teach murder, or incitement to murder. Those who threaten you insult and betray genuine Muslims who can distinguish between mockery and mayhem.

My Faith teaches its followers to reach out to our fellow men and stresses the value of hospitality. That is a more important tenet of Islam than anything about drawing pictures.

It is more important to show the world that Islam is NOT about slaughter, but about decency and respect. It is the Religion of Peace, not of terror.

With this in mind, I offer to provide you with the hospitality of true Islam. If you would like to come to stay in my home, among my family, you may do so. You would be protected just as they are.

If you do not care to travel, I will personally provide you with whatever funds you believe are necessary to insure your safety. That includes living expenses and the cost of guards to protect you. I will pay the funds to a person you designate, so that I do not personally know your location or what steps you take.

And in any case, I want the world to know that Molly Norris, her family, and her property are under my personal hospitality. Anyone who harms or threatens to harm her does so to me as well.

I stand against terror and threats. Allah is a great and merciful God. He neither fears nor makes war on cartoonists. "

H. M. King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Riyadh

H. H. Emir Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Kuwait

H. H. Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said, Muscat

Sen. Larry Shaw, Chairman, CAIR

THERE IS NO SUCH ACTUAL LETTER, which is my point.

My Ground Zero Mosque Rant...

"Behold, Aziz! The Americans prattle about freedom of religion and private property, but as soon as the Faithful try to exercise those rights, the Crusaders go crazy! How easy it is for us to tell our people that the Christians are bigoted against us, with this example to point to!"

If the Methodists could do it, the Moslems can.

I have layers of problems with the whole thing. First is being irritated that they even need permission. Private property, remember? If this were something we liked, that is the first argument we'd use.

And whether we like it or not, Islam is a religion. We may despise its filthy tenets, but they qualify just like Hasids and Carmelites.

I think what bothers me the most about this is that by opposing it, we accept a very basic cultural outlook of our enemies. I mean the permanent enemies of liberty, not the current Moslem ones.

Yankees forget, this country is already full of explicitly triumphalist memorials specifically designed to humiliate defeated Americans . Placed on the exact spots where the victories occurred, constant, daily reminders, to those who personally bore slaughter and defeat of their loved ones.

White Folks forget too, and not just down South.

It seems to be a tool of tyrants to keep this sort of eternal, collective, multi generational, distracting enmity going. Look at so many hell holes of the world, and how often you find people fighting about something that happened before they were born. No one needs a list of these permanent blood feuds.

The English- following their own Civil War, and the Anglo/ Americans, following their Civil Wars in 1782, 1814, and 1865, decided not to make those hates permanent and active parts of their futures, and by and large did that. In America, from the start, the tolerant (and therefore forgetful) spirit marched, even when Englishmen still disabled Catholics at home. The old country hates didn't survive very well in the free soil here. (Sure, we talk sometimes, but Irishmen don't murder their English landlords, or Moslems blow up Jews, here. At least not wholesale.)

We despise irredentism, Balkanisation, and grudge baiting when our enemies do it, because they are poison to free people.

We're better than that generally. And we're better than that specifically, too. Stopping this mosque won't change our enemies.

Let them dance in the blood of innocents. It won't alter what happened on September 11.

And it reminds us of what they did that day, and what they remain.

Sorry, that's a lot of talk. But I really think we're fundamentally wrong by opposing this, and playing into their hands besides.

"Bomb Scare"? "Attempt"?

NO!!! It was a COMPLETED BOMBING.

He MADE THE BOMB.

He PLACED IT AT HIS CHOSEN TARGET.

He SET IT OFF.

He GOT AWAY UNSOUGHT.

The criminal did EVERYTHING HE WANTED TO DO.

If he had bought his ticket a month earlier for the date of the bombing, or paid with a credit card, he'd have been in Dubai.

This bombing was a complete success. NO ACTION OF THE BOMBER WAS PREVENTED.

Sure, if the bomb had been constructed differently, lots of people would have died. This is not a stupid criminal. This is an educated, competent man, he could easily have made a better bomb. He could have easily escaped.

We ASSUME he meant it to go off. Why isn't it just practice?

Hint- today's lessons:

"Wah, Sharif! The Infidels are so eager to show their fear of the True Faith, and to turn our Jihad to domestic political advantage, that they hunt an innocent man, one of their own!

"And their Zionist pig Mayor accuses his own political enemies, without any evidence at all! They are so ripe for civil war, they will do anything to blame their own people, the ones who are our enemies, for doing what we actually do!

And when our Shaheed Brother brings himself to their notice, they apologise to US.

But we have "learned" some things. When we plant the real bombs, make the escape arrangements early, and use credit cards.

Don't buy cars that have been in dealer inventory recently. Use fake names when buying them. Get tinted windows, and put an old blanket over the bomb. Stupid brown people that we are, we could never figure those out!

And plant the real bomb where there will be lots of white infidels around, and security cameras.

Contessa Brewer will wet herself when we shoot up the Harlem schoolyard wearing Klan robes!

Allah is great!"

Gay Soldier Transition Program...

So. LabRat's great post on gay soldiers got me thinking. The military services, like every other big government program. never make a big change without announcements and creating transition teams...

"Today the President ordered the armed services to immediately cease any and all special regulatory or UCMJ recognition of homosexuality. As Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, I appear before you today to discuss the implementation of this policy.

First, he which hath no stomach to this fight, let him depart; his passport shall be made, and crowns for convoy put into his purse. We would not die in that man's company that fears his fellowship to die with us.

Any service member who wants to quit because of this change may apply within the next thirty days. He will be released as soon as service convenience permits it. He will receive a special hardship discharge that notes "unable to serve alongside gay Americans" as the reason for his separation.

But we know that the few remaining service members who do not run from this change will wonder how to face it.

I can best discuss implementation of the change within the services by quoting- it is a day for quotes, isn't it?- Fred Reed on the two greatest practical problems.

"Soldiers don't want a sergeant who they know is gay as an Easter bonnet, who has the power to make life miserable, leering at them if the towel drops."

That one is easy. Our policies remain exactly the same about unfit or criminal commanders as they were last week. Oppression by superiors of those under their command will never be tolerated. There is plenty of room in the E-1 ranks, Leavenworth, and Portsmouth for those who misuse their authority.

"Men do not like being eyed by other men in the barracks and showers."

We accept that this problem exists, and that it is one for which many soldiers are unprepared. The eye-up terror will force some from our ranks.

For those who dare to confront it, help will be available.

We recognise the value of experience. For example, we try to use previously wounded veterans to help transition wounded soldiers from hospital bed to their futures.

the President has authorised the direct commission of a new Lieutenant- General.
This officer has a great deal of experience with this specific problem, and already has effective policies in place for dealing with it. Our newest General will command a special unit tasked to help soldiers face this new challenge. This unit will be recruited from those who have already successfully faced, and triumphed over, the truly destructive experience of unwanted sexual advance. Many of the new members of this command are already familiar to soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines. We hope that familiarity, like the previous service of volunteer veteran counselors at VA hospitals, will make it easier for our service members to manage this, their newest challenge.

I'd like you to meet the United States Army's newest General Officer.

And here is a list of potential recruits with the sort of qualifications and experience to handle this program.

Another Bloodless Victory For Islam!!!

"Yah, Ahmad! This is truly brilliant! Did Staghounds give you the idea, when he wrote back in 2006, "Next year, look for a terrorist plot involving exploding underwear. Then we'll have to fly naked."?

If only the Infidels never wake up, and realise that we do not really care about their stupid airplanes!

So many victories! First, of course, the panic. Then another panic the next day, over our "legitimate businessman" with a "health problem". Did you see those suitcases on the runway?

Then, I admit, you were right about the pre planning! To have Hassan call the Americans and pretend to be our operative's father. You knew the Godless Satans would talk about it. Now no one will call to warn, knowing the Americans will reveal their treason to God to the world!

Then, to have two Guantanamo releases blamed for planning the operation! The Enemy was already tearing at himself over the Brothers in Cuba, now it will be even better!

I expect you are right about the best part of your strategy, too. That the Frances Oldham Kelsey principle will mean that no matter how many martyrs we report, each one will receive their full attention!

All for the price of a ticket and some underwear!

Allah is truly great!

Hand me that prepaid cell phone and New York telephone book. Let's see... Mrs. Emanuel Goldfarb. Things are going to start happening to her now! Hello, Terror Warning Line? First, I want you to know that I am recording this call..."

You're fired, Rosa Brooks...

Dear Ms. Brooks;

I have read with interest some of your back columns. They compel me to withdraw the offer of appointment I made to you.

Not because you seem to express contrary beliefs to suit your purpose. It might be risky to have someone on staff who can assert both

Bush remarked that "if you're interested in avoiding World War III . . . you ought to be interested in preventing [Iran] from having the knowledge necessary to make a nuclear weapon." ...This is lunacy in action.

AND

the war in Iraq is a dangerous distraction from other pressing threats to U.S. security, such as nuclear proliferation and the rise of militant Islam worldwide.

But you are an opinion columnist, and any stick was good enough to hit President Bush.

But we can stand that. You have, your entire professional life, been a critic. You have, with the benefit of hindsight, told responsible people where they erred and how they ought to do things in the future. When you have been wrong, you have maybe caused the LA Times to lose a few subscribers.

What bothers me is the column of April 9. I may or may not agree with the ideas you mention about journalism. But I am very concerned about other comments- particularly

"Some might say I have a "new job," but because I'll be escaping a dying industry -- and your tax dollars will shortly be paying my salary -- I prefer to think of it as my personal government bailout."

and

"Of course, I'm not taking a government job only because I feel lucky to parachute out before some cost-cutter eliminates every last column. At this moment in history, I can't imagine anything more rewarding than being part of the new team that's shaping U.S. policy."

First, because I fear you will have serious problems committing to courses of conduct that go against your previously expressed opinions. It has become obvious to me since I came to DOD that there are things in the world of which I was ignorant. I have had to modify more than a few views I had which were based on that ignorance. I would hate for you to find yourself in a position where you had to, for example, make decisions about dealing with terror suspects in light of your columns. I would hope that you would be able to disregard your own advice in a proper case- but it would be difficult.

Secondly, what we do at the Department of Defense is really outside your experience.

We don't just say "you shouldn't have", and make suggestions. We actually do things.

I wonder what you would have said in December 2001 about an adviser to the undersecretary of defense for policy if she had written in, say, June that Al Quaeda was “an obscure group of extremist thugs, well financed and intermittently lethal but relatively limited in their global and regional political pull.” But I don't have to wonder very hard, do I?

As an adviser to the undersecretary of defense for policy, “Rosa Brooks” goes on recommendations of real policies, before the results happen. I used to mock that "I'm the decider" comment too- but it's not so funny now. No more working in a vacuum, no more costless mistakes. Everyone gets to be a critic now but you.

And most importantly, the comments I quoted reveal a basic confusion about what the things we do are.

Quoting an old boss of mine, I told you that here’s only one rule here- don’t f#*k up.

Because this is the Department of Defense. Our tool kit is destruction- explosives, fire, steel, and radioactive material.

Which means that every mistake, even the smallest, makes corpses, cripples, widows, and orphans.

Old corpses, baby cripples, innocent widows and orphans. You would probably know some of them before you end or shatter their lives. You would definitely attend some of their funerals.

That’s right, suffering YOU MADE will now exist. People will kill, on your recommendation. It’s not like losing a little market share.

Even when you are right, people will kill and die and suffer. But you'll never know if you WERE right, even when you are. There just isn't any way to know.

This isn't a job. It's not about rewarding you. And it certainly is not a bailout of any kind.

You see, here at DOD we have people who actually DO parachute. Over at the Air Force, "bailout" isn't such a giggle. And those Rangers and SEALs don't hit the ripcord to avoid poverty- they jump OUT of the safe place, and INTO danger. Real danger, not the tragedy of having to wait another year to be able to buy a new car.

When we last met, I told you that your words were mine now, and to not put me in the position of defending an opinion I don't even have.

I have to account for what you say, Ms. Brooks. And the next time I go to Walter Reed, I don't think I can honestly tell those people that you understand how serious real life is.

When I offered you this appointment, I said "Welcome to the sheepdog kennel, Ms. Brooks".

On reflection, I don't believe you belong here.

Good luck in your future efforts elsewhere.

Suppose we hadn't "foiled" the latest bomb plot...

It's a shame if the "liquid bomb" plot people actually went to the trouble of buying the chemicals, since they got 110% of their goal- demonstrating their mastery of us by fear- just by talking.

But assuming they had succeeded, and on one day 10 airplanes had made unscheduled mid ocean landings, what would we do?

I know, panic and cower, just like we have done. And our leaders would go obediently to mosques, to apologise for anger against Moslems that no one has or acts upon, and to explain that as long as one merely sympathises with murderers, one has a free ride. And there would be lots of appeals, weepy services, and the families of the dead would be sad and/or richer.

But I mean, what would we do against the enemy?

The actual plotters would be dead. Assuming we ever found out who on the missing airplanes blew them up- fat chance, unless someone talked- they are British. Their encouragers are British. There is no "proof" that there is any participant in, or financier of, the outrage who is not British.

What do we do? Aside from just take it?

Until we get aggressive with those who encourage murder, that's what we'll have to do. Get used to the idea, presidents and prime ministers. Now and then, you'll have to execute the sad announcement/grovel at mosque/memorial tribute/we are resolved speech/ wait for the next one gavotte. Your masters in Bradford and Dearborn will be in touch.

Don't feel badly about being the puppet of random criminals. I'm sure that Washington and Pitt and Lincoln and Curchill would do exactly the same thing in your place.

"Islamic Fascism" is a term for the ignorant...

This “Islamic Fascism” is a stupidly ahistorical phrase. The people engaged on the other side aren’t fascists, they have no political or economic ideology at all, fascist or otherwise. People just say “fascists” because that’s the leftover Soviet term of abuse, and it sounds bad.

May as well call them “Islamic Klansmen” or "Islamic paedophiles" or "Islamic wearers of checks with stripes" for all the sense it makes.

They are Moslems. Fanatical, extreme, fundamentalist, or just true believers, but their religion IS their ideology and war aim. It’s like saying the Crusaders were "Catholic Nazis" or those of Gustavus Adolphus “Protestant White Supremacists”.

It still beats broad strata, though.

Another Moslem victory, with not a single casualty...

“Did you see the news today, Ahmad? All the brothers had to do was TALK ABOUT carrying bombs onto airplanes, and now they quake in fear of every gym bag! Until the end of time, no Infidel will carry a Godless bottle of water or satanic book onto an airplane! Millions of money and thousands of hours of aggravation, just from talk!

Allah is truly mighty, that the west cowers from the very thought of martyrdom operations!”

Next year, look for a terrorist plot involving exploding underwear. Then we'll have to fly naked.

If we overreact to the point where millions of passengers can't carry a laptop onto an airplane, then they have beaten us. We're just waiting for the next command. When there's a conspiracy about bombs in ships, look for multi billion dollar ship precautions and follow on delay and expense. Train bombs? Inspect every boxcar with the new Federal Department of Every Box Car Inspection.

What strikes me is that they are winning huge economic victories without taking a single casualty. They just have to find some jihadis who are willing to "conspire", get caught, spend a few years in a safe western prison, and come out as heroes. We- as we permit our masters to direct us- deserve to lose.

The proper reaction is this:

"Today, we discovered a plot to bomb airplanes. We know that the oil revenues of Saudi Arabia are used to finance the men who encourage and plan similar conspiracies- maybe this one, maybe not. I have today ordered the sequestration of every bank account and financial instrument owned by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Ten per cent of each account or instrument will be deducted to pay for investigation, infiltration, and destruction of jihad encouragers. To help prevent conspiracy, every cellular telephone tower in Saudi Arabia has been disabled. To promote air safety, no airplane may fly to, from, or over Saudi Arabia. These measures will continue for at least the next 180 days. Since no one was injured in this jihad attempt, we have not killed the hundred most senior government officials of Saudi Arabia, nor have we confiscated that country's oil infrastructure. We hope this encourages the government of Saudi Arabia to bend its efforts to discourage murderers rather than to incite them. To other governments, Saudi Arabia was a random choice among jihad encouragers. Next time it could be you. To our own citizens who side with our enemies, think again. To those who call this disproportionate, if you were on those airplanes you would think differently. No reaction to threats against Americans is disproportionate or beyond imposition. I will not go to another funeral caused by our weakness."

"The carrots have failed. I will fight the war they want. I will over react. I will profile. I will punish disproportionately. I will put cruise missiles and SEAL / SAS teams on the kings and prime ministers who finance this. We will ATTACK our enemies. THEY will never know where the next blow will strike. THEY will wonder what form it will take. THEY will fear US. That is all."

No one walks around Germany with a swastika on. Why not? It's not sensitivity or guilt, it's because the last time that happened, Germany was turned into a smoking ash heap.

SOME political leader is missing a real chance.

They hate us, we fear them...

No matter how many tears the white man cries, he is still the enemy. "When... you are driven to trek across a desert in order to mow those people’s lawns for them, the humiliation is doubled."

They ARE winning. It's obvious, we are acting like losers. Our military power is being used to "build democracy". Not to protect us, or to make us feared.

There will be a time- this week? Some day in 2011? when our defeat is clear. Savannah or Honolulu or Topeka will be a smoking hole, and some president will be unwilling to retaliate. Unable to even think, "Patience my ass, I'm going to kill something." The rockets will sit in their silos, so some president can take the "moral high ground". So he can send a message that live Arab civilians are more important than dead Americans. That's the message of the Cole, the Khobar towers, and so many other outrages followed by measured response.

This fool we have now is supposed to be the tough side of our culture. A winner says something like "This is the free world. We publish what we like." Only a loser says "We're sorry we offended you." The Arabs know what it means as they burn our embassies and WE counsel OUR restraint..

Westerners who have not seen war, westerners who haven't travelled to the third world, have NO IDEA what it is like out there. The world outside the west is, in large part, just like the worst housing project in your town, minus the nice amenities. The strongest and meanest rule, period. Our enemies can't believe that we are so weak, that we accept such humiliation. We will not wake up until we have no choice, and probably not then.

The article I link to below says truths that are simply unsayable in general public discourse, beter than I can. Dislike the truths, but that does not make them false.

  • If you don’t think we fear them, read some of the responses by people like the British Foreign Secretary to the recent Muslim riots.  They are full of passion and rage; we are full of smug illusions.  They dream of slaughter and sacrifice; we dream of celebrities and gadgets.
  •
